Setting up a Canva template at the wrong size is one of the most common mistakes new Etsy sellers make. A 5 × 7 invitation built at 72 dpi looks sharp on screen but prints blurry. A wall art file built as a square will not crop cleanly to an 8 × 10 frame. Use these exact Canva canvas sizes for each digital product type before you spend time on the design.

A useful lens. Treat this guide as a starting point for research. SellerKite editorial picks and rankings are opinions from our team, not independent guarantees of demand, rankings, or sales.

How to set 300 DPI in Canva

Canva does not show a DPI field in the canvas settings. DPI is applied at export time. When you click Download → select PDF Print or PNG → Canva will give you a "300 DPI" option for Print quality. Always export at the highest quality for anything that will be printed.

  • Use PDF Print (300 DPI) for all printable products — invitations, planners, wall art
  • Use PNG at standard quality for digital-only products used on screens — social templates
  • Include bleed (0.125 in / 3 mm on each side) if your buyer will print at a professional print shop
  • Name your exported files clearly: "5x7-invitation-FRONT.pdf", "16x20-wall-art.pdf"

Sharing Canva templates as Etsy products

When you sell a Canva template on Etsy, you share a "Template Link" (not a direct download). In Canva, open your design → Share → Template link → Copy link. Add this link to a PDF instruction guide that becomes the Etsy digital download file. Tell buyers to click the link and make a copy in their own Canva account before editing.

  • Test the template link in a fresh browser (or incognito) before publishing the listing
  • Create a simple instruction page explaining "How to edit your template in Canva"
  • Include the Canva link, file format, and editing instructions in your Etsy description
  • Use SellerKite to generate SEO copy and tags for your Canva template listing automatically

The handoff is part of the offer

A digital product is not finished when the export finishes. It is finished when a buyer can identify the right file, understand the first step, and reach a useful result without guessing. Use the listing images to preview the handoff, then make the delivered folder or guide feel like a quiet continuation of the purchase.

Name files for the buyer rather than for your internal design process. “Start-here.pdf”, “A4-print-file.pdf”, and “Canva-template-link.pdf” are more useful than a chain of dates and version numbers. Keep a private version log separately so the public delivery stays simple.

  • Add a contents page before the files
  • Test the archive and links in a fresh session
  • State software, paper, size, and account requirements
  • Keep a version date when a product may be updated

Build a small evidence loop

After launch, collect the questions that arrive before and after download. A question about file size belongs in the listing; a question about printing may belong in the guide; a question about what the product is for may mean the hero image is doing too little work.

Give each revision a reason. Record what changed, when it changed, and what signal you expect to move. This keeps a digital shop from becoming a pile of unmeasured redesigns and makes your next bundle easier to plan.

The buyer question behind the idea

Before you add another variation to this digital products workflow, ask what the buyer is trying to finish. The answer should be concrete enough to show in an image, explain in one sentence, and verify after delivery. If the product only sounds interesting to another seller, keep researching until the customer benefit is clearer.

This is also where differentiation becomes practical. You do not need to invent a new category; you need to make one decision easier, one moment calmer, or one result more achievable for a defined person. That focus should appear in the title, preview, price, instructions, and the support answer you would send on a busy day.

A small test before a large build

Make the smallest version that still feels complete. Give it a real name, a real preview, a real delivery path, and a real review step. Then ask someone unfamiliar with the project to describe what they think they will receive. Their answer is often more useful than another hour of internal polishing.

Keep the test measurable without pretending the result is a forecast. Record attention, questions, saves, conversion, support time, production time, and any mismatch between the promise and the delivered experience. Use the evidence to choose the next change instead of changing every part at once.

Before you publish

  • Can a first-time visitor name the product and intended buyer?
  • Does the first image show the real offer rather than only a mood?
  • Are dimensions, materials, file types, variants, or access steps clear?
  • Have you tested every link, export, personalization field, and sample?
  • Does the price include the work that happens after checkout?
  • Is the title specific without promising an outcome you cannot control?
  • Do you know which question or signal will guide the next revision?

Make the next decision clearer, then review the result with the same care you gave the idea.
